Most of the world’s population resides in – and the overwhelming percentage of that population’s growth occurs in the incredible diversity of places we call the Third World. They are unfortunately, trapped in a world unable to move freely in their countries and are deprived of basic rights. They have lives rife with poverty, disease, and war. This unfortunately, is a life many lead, but yet so many are unaware of, are blind to; however, an idea that needs to be reinforced in countries, especially those third world countries, is that these individuals should be entitled to certain basic rights under any circumstances. These include certain civil liberties and political rights, the most fundamental of which is the right to life and physical safety. Unfortunately, there are times when these rights are not fulfilled and are violated by tyrannical leaders attempting to extend their rule over others. By way of illustration, in countries like Syria, Palestine, Yemen, and other third world countries, this is the norm; masses of people are left without rights, basic rights, that in other more developed countries are fulfilled.

Unquestionably, leaders in charge often abuse their power to extend their rule over their country, especially in those third world countries. In often cases, these countries are economically underdeveloped and are characterized by poverty, agriculture economy, and high birth rate, where deprivation of basic rights is basically the norm. The citizens of these countries are deprived of aid, food, and proper education; they each have the same chapters that never end which makes history to keep repeating itself. The same old process keeps going on and on, but nothing is changing. The effect of the decline in living standards and deprivation of basic human rights in these poor countries increases potential for political violence as an impact on the government. “There have been over twenty violent protests in recent years specifically against the austerity measures imposed by the IMF, with over 3,000 people killed in those protests.” Political violence or in other words reactions to the government will continue in the future as long as the needs of the citizens are not met; in some cases, citizens will even be stripped of all their rights by these corrupt, tyrannical leaders.

It has been years and years since the war broke out leaving the country collide. The current leader, Al- Assad, abused his power and used it as an advantage to go against his people. The Syrian government, had succeeded in capturing areas in “Damascus countryside and Daraa”; they used a combination of unlawful, inhumane tactics, including prohibited weapons, and restrictions on humanitarian aid, to force anti-government groups to surrender in these areas. In fact, after several chemical attacks during the first year, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was authorized to attribute responsibility for attacks in Syria; it was a human rights violation, one that many were left unaware of. Many innocents lives were lost, to starvation, and poverty, and life rife with war; in fact, “over 5.4 million people have fled Syria since 2011.”  This led to about “6.1 million more internally displaced” inside the country; unfortunately, these people could not voice their opinions to point out the tyranny of the government and prevent the its corruption.

The Palestinian-Israeli had been the longest yet painful controversial conflict that had happened. Hitler was part of the World War 2 and after his downfall, he was blamed for the damage the war had caused. This takes us all the way back to the history of the Jewish people during the time period of the Holocaust. He began to seize all the Jewish people, accusing them of Germany’s economic and financial problems. The people faced a life-or-death situation when inside the Auschwitz concentration, but a “ number of German Jews who had gone underground, emigrated, or survived the concentration camps, together with East European Jewish survivors of the Holocaust did not wish to remain in their home countries.’ Being rounded and tortured was the life the people were living in. When the world started to notice the tragedy, “January 27,  the Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz” yet, all they found were ‘some 7,000 prisoners alive.” Since Germany was completely destroyed, the Jewish people were officially told that Palestine was their home even without a peace treaty to settle an agreement. As a result, this caused great tension and friction between the Palestinians and the Jews.

Ever since Israelis took over Palestinian land, violence and tension has been ensuing. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the world’s longest-running and most controversial conflicts. At its heart, it is a conflict between two self-determination movements — the Jewish Zionist group and the Palestinian group — that lay claim to the same territory. The power the Israelis hold now, keeps away the Palestinians from self-ruling and limited their rights. In fact, “most Palestinians are arrested without charge or trial, and if they are given a trial it usually lasts a very short period of time.”  They should at least be given fair trials and should not be mistreated and tortured while still in custody. In certain cases involving young adolescents like Ahed Tamimi, she had gotten arrested and spent three months locked up for slapping one of the soldiers who came with no warrant. The “proceedings give no legal rights to the accused, who are always pronounced guilty.” Even by protesting, these Palestinians could get arrested regardless of age, gender; this qualifies as a human rights violation, in some cases where even “the Human Rights Amnesty International has charged that Israel guilty of war crimes.” As for the United Nations, there were utterly blind to this mass human rights violation and did not provide aid where and when needed.

With Israel occupying the majority of Palestine, Palestinians were evicted from their own homes and were sent into custody. In fact, over the “ past three and a half years, the IDF has demolished some 1,800 homes, leaving these Palestinians homeless and with no abouts” Mass destruction of civilian property is without a doubt a violation, a human rights violation; these Palestinians’ rights were not respected and nothing could be done now that more developed countries were not providing aid. Palestinian minors were suffering serious injuries by Israeli forces since protests broke out across the occupied Palestinian territories. It was the “Intifada”, an uprising which was started by the Palestinians to fight off the soldiers and bring what was theirs back. “They believed they had to make sacrifices to achieve an independent Palestinian state.” After many failed attempts, this did not stop them from revolting but actually, it made them to wanting to correct the wrong-doings that’s causing all this mess.

Surprisingly, large amounts of money are sent to support Israel and mostly used on military weapons. Right after taxpayers pay all their taxes, they do not know how much money is used on weapons that are being sent to Israeli soldiers. It is noted that “from 2009 to 2018 the U.S. has budgeted $30 billion in military aid to Israel.” Rather than using the money to strengthen their own military, they use it to attack the people there. “With 2,969 unarmed, civilian fatalities between 2000 and 2009, Ruebner believes that the amount of money being sent, and the amount of arms being supplied, should be scrutinized.” Since these soldiers have weapons, they abuse their power of having it to do what they want. This isn’t the norms that are expected of them.   According to the statistics, many people cannot protect themselves. Most importantly, the Palestinian People don’t have the right to bear arms when it comes to being attacked by the government forces. Many have suffered serious injuries by Israeli forces since protests broke out across the occupied Palestinian territories. So, having this right gives a person access to weaponry to safely protect themselves, which is in fact, quite controversial in the United States.

Due to a war going on with Saudi Arabia and Iran over religious beliefs, it has affected Yemen negatively. There should be free exercise of whatever religion you believe in since it’s our right to choose. Either a Sunni or Shia, there shouldn’t be problem because we are all considered as one. Firing missiles had caused “hundreds of people” to die and “thousands” to be injured.” Important necessities were stopped due to pathways being blocked. By the process of “preventing delivery of fuel, food, and medicine”, it had caused a big blow “to the economy, harming infrastructure and limiting options for transporting goods.” The continuation of the war led to many consequences to be faced. The people of Yemen don’t have access to “Medical supplies and medicines” leaving supplies to become scarce. During times of war and horrible conditions, citizens should be protected and not deprived of their own rights because they are entitled to them.

Surprisingly, human rights violations have been prevalent-as prevalent as the air one breathes and is found almost everywhere even in China. By way of illustration, in China, over a million Muslim Uighurs have been contained in detention camps in areas of the country. This has raised the concern of the U.S.-based advocacy group Human Rights Watch in that these Muslims have faced pervasive restrictions on their religious beliefs and practices, and have endured other human rights violations. They are subjected to restricted movement, collective punishment, forced labor, and intrusive surveillance. This was due to the fact that they were accused of harboring “strong religious views” and “politically incorrect” ideas that offend the Chinese government. However, with many turning a blind eye to this plight, these Muslim Uighurs were subjected to forced labor and horribly mistreated by the Chinese. These Chinese officials are “ detaining around one million people and putting them in detention camps, so-called “re-education camps”, where they are being forced to denounce religion, eat pork and drink alcohol which are prohibited in Islam in addition to facing physical and verbal abuse by authorities” with the world watching, but choosing to stand by. However, these Chinese officials argue that these precautions were taken for national security and to ensure the safety of their citizens; they argue that these Muslim Uighurs might be behind terrorism forces and might threaten the security of the nation. Yet, “particular focus was given to the Xinjiang issue, upon which both Republican and Democrat representatives expressed concern, according to CNA. Chairman of the subcommittee Cory Gardner and Democrat opposition Ed Markey both said Beijing needs to do more to curb human rights abuses.” Yet, they still argue that these detention camps exist solely for  educational and vocational training purposes. Reports of subjection of Muslim Uighurs to cruel punishments and torture say otherwise.

As can be seen, people’s rights have been violated multiple times. In some countries, many have lives rife with poverty, disease, and war. This unfortunately, is a life many lead, but yet so many are unaware of, are blind to; however, an idea that needs to be reinforced in countries, especially those third world countries, is that these individuals should be entitled to certain basic rights under any circumstances. Wars should deprive people of their rights and should have the freedom to do as they wish. Countries Syria, Palestine, Yemen, and other third world countries, this is the norm; masses of people are left without rights, basic rights, that in other more developed countries are fulfilled. It’s common that leaders in charge often abuse their power to extend their rule over their country or by controlling people to fit their way of standards.
